2014 Election Campaigns

So here are the absolute worst moments of the 2014 mid-term elections.

1) The "Sean Maloney is a Phony Baloney" campaign.  I do not live in the New York 18th Congressional District and I know virtually nothing about candidate Sean Maloney and his opponent Nan Hayworth except what I hear on this TV commercial which is repeated endlessly night after night.  Would I vote for someone who resorts to 2nd grade level name calling as a strategy to win a seat in the United States House of Representatives?  Of course NOT!  Just based on this infantile TV commercial I would NOT vote for Nan Hayworth.  And I apologize to 2nd graders everywhere.  I don't really believe they would resort to this juvenile tactic even if they were running for 2nd grade class president.  Worst TV commercial ever.   Score 1 for the Democrats.

2)  The "Businesses and Corporations Do Not Create Jobs" statement.  I am shocked at Hillary Clinton.  This is the worst blunder ever.  In Boston this week, campaigning for gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley, Clinton stated "Don't let anybody tell you it's corporations and businesses that create jobs," Clinton said. "You know that old theory, 'trickle-down economics,'" she continued. "That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly." Does Hillary really believe this? Governments produce jobs that employ people whose salary is paid for by taxes - not from generated revenue.  And who pays for Hillary's campaign war chest?  Government?  NO!  It is paid for by businesses and corporations.  Hillary certainly shot herself in the foot this time.  Score 1 for the Republicans.

3)  Audience Walks Out on Obama.  The President has been widely criticized for failing to stump for Democratic candidates this year.  A rare appearance last week on the campaign trail in Maryland did not end well for President Obama.  The audience started to walk out on the President's speech. Not a mad rush for the exits but a steady stream of disinterested people peppered with a few hecklers. So unpopular is the President at this time that very few Democratic candidates want to be seen with him.  Instead, the President has been sending his very popular wife to do campaign stumping for him.  Score 1 for the Republicans.

4) The Suffolk County 1st Congressional District race.  I despise Tim Bishop, the Democratic incumbent Congressman from Suffolk County.  He is under investigation for campaign fraud and tax fraud. He is an Obama rubber stamp who cannot think for himself. But Republican candidate Lee Zeldin is running on an anti-pro choice, anti-Medicare, anti-Social Security, anti-immigration platform.  How is that going to win any votes?  Certainly not mine. Is this the best candidate the Republicans could find to challenge Bishop?  Score 1 for the Democrats.

11/05/2014 - UPDATE.  Democrat Sean Maloney won re-election.  Hillary and Obama are eating crow.  And Tim Bishop was defeated by newcomer Republican Lee Zeldin.
